10th day of Buca

See? Told you. If you leave it on the couch, he sneaks in. And it's folded laundry.

2nd day of Buca

If I forget to move the clean laundry off the couch, he sneaks in at night, and this is what we find in the morning:

Make sure you catch up on your laundry. Wash those tablecloths and napkins and have them ironed!

1st day of Buca

I was looking through pictures to make into a photo book (I'm pretty sure that's not even going to happen this year.) and it was funny to see how many times our dog showed up.
Who can resist snapping a pic of their animal?? I can't.

So I present to you, the 12 days of Buca. (boo-kah)

Starting with this one:

When he was a puppy and our "only" child, I used to give him a daily mo-hawk, with a goatee.

Making some art

I'm still on this silhouette fascination.

I had this urge to do my family's and have a whole wall of profiles!
How cool would that be?
On a Saturday afternoon, because I can't sit still, I have everyone sit in front of a window
so I could photograph them from the side.

my hbee

After about 20 minutes of corralling everyone to window, can you believe they
had better things to do, like play video games? Or brew beer outside??

I could of edited the photos with a program and turned up the contrast or highlights,
but itchy fingers, there was no time for that!
I just opened the pics on my computer, we use iphoto.
With regular old loose leaf I traced the outline of everyone's face using the
computer monitor as a light box.

I just traced the profile with an exacto

You could probably get away with using scissors, but I had to break out this really cool exacto knife
set that I never get to use. I've had it...over 20 years!

close up of the cross hatching for beard hair

Since I had beard hair to cut out, I used the exacto and just drew tiny X-like slashes.
I wasn't fully prepared for this project and used cheap cardstock.

look at the freakishly long neck! its not like that in real life

I had some pretty paper, I think it was part of a Valentine Day theme pack.
I used that as a background. Framed them in a simple black frame from IKEA.

I noticed that I probably should of "ended" everyone's neck as if we were wearing a collared
shirt, and I should of paid more attention to the scale of the photos.
Otherwise, I think they make a lovely addition to our living room.

photo taking during holiday time

I think it's really cool that you can recognize someone from just a plain silhouette!

New Christmas Stockings and Tree is Up up up!

Our tree, all glitzed up.

The stockings were a new edition to the decorations this year. I was tired of having a mish-mash
of stockings and having the stocking stuffers not fit! Sometimes things like a DVD, or a chocolate orange would be left out.

So I decided to make new ones.
It was so hard for me to pick out coordinating fabrics that I really loved!
I tried to find Christmas themes, but none of them were just right.
I ended up at Hawthorne Threads.

And finally, after hours of browsing and getting lost in fabrics, and other project ideas..I picked
Bren Talavera's Sierra, in fiesta.

I thought it was perfect for us.

Cut out all five at once! Guess I should ask Santa for some rotary blades.

Finished and sloppily hung.

The kids complained that the dog didn't have a stocking. Ugh.
The dog's, which is on the far right, I did a quilt-as-you-go with the left over pieces. It's not lined, and the back is just a plain flannel and his hook is bias tape.  Don't judge, at he's got a stocking now!
I have plans to make a tree skirt w/ the extra yardage anyway. :)

The tutorial that really helped me was sewlikemymom .
